Great White North

The other day I heard Bob & Doug McKenzie’s silly song “12 Days of Christmas” (1982!) and then soon after heard an interview with Al Yankovic. That juxtaposition made me realize I needed a spot for great accordion songs AND Canadian talent. So here it is…

Helpless

What could be better than a Canadian songwriter being covered by Cowboy Junkies? The accordion playing on this track is simply amazing… that guy deserves a bonus.

The Wailin’ Jennys

I am well familiar with wailing jennies, but rarely do they harmonize as well as this Canadian gang.

Neil

And speaking of Young, here is a great performance of of a couple “new” songs from 1971, when I was certainly very young. It includes an explanation of where the song “Old Man” comes from, which I had never heard before.

That’s all for now. Additions may come in the future! For now I have to go tend the wailing jennies.
